BMA drains out water overnight prevention of flooding

BANGKOK, September 7 (TNA) - The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) had drained out excess water into the sea overnight, after heavy downpours hit the capital. Sanya Shinimit, Director of the BMA's Department of Drainage and Sewerage, acknowledged that the heavy downpours from Thursday night until early Friday morning, with the highest amount of precipitation measured in Saphan Sung area at 145 millimetres followed by Sai Mai, Klong Saen Saeb and Nong Jok areas at around 109.5 millimetres, had, thus, increased water levels in waterways. The director said BMA officials were pumping out rainwater from canals into the Chao Phraya River overnight, but water levels in the main canals in the city remained high, overflowing to inundate several areas along the canals. According to the senior BMA official, water pumps at the Rama 9 Tunnel were also set to run at their full capacities to quickly drain out the rainwater to the Chao Phraya River and to the sea as soon as possible.(TNA)
