BMA launches "Read On the Move" campaign

BANGKOK, July 31 (TNA) - The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has joined forces with Thailand's reading promotion network and taxi cooperatives to launch a public campaign, called "Read On the Move", to promote people's reading while riding on taxis. Deputy Bangkok Governor Pusadee Tamthai presided over a ceremony to launch the "Read On the Move" campaign at the BMA headquarters on Thursday, aimed to promote the habit of loving to read in the wake of "Bangkok World Book Capital 2013" mission. At the ceremony, Pusadee released a caravan of 50 taxis installed with leather pockets filled with books and put stickers on the wind shields to promote the campaign and provide services to passengers. Pusadee suggested that taxi passengers use their traveling time, amid traffic congestion, to read to be relaxing and to gain knowledge. The deputy governor revealed that 1,000 taxis have, so far, joined the campaign, which will later be expanded to all taxis in Bangkok, in which a variety of knowledgeable books, including magazines on cars, health and tourism, are available and will be updated every three months. According to the deputy governor, interested public are invited to make book donations at every district office across the capital to support the campaign. (TNA)
