BMA starts flood prevention operations

BANGKOK, January 28 (TNA) - The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) announced on Saturday that it will implement flood prevention plans from early next month until May, in preparations for, probably, repeated floods during the monsoon season this year. Sanya Cheenimit, Director of BMA’s Drainage and Sewerage Department, said that he will submit the city's flood prevention plans to Bangkok Governor M.R. Sukhumbhand Paribatra on January 30, covering checking and cleaning water drainage systems, especially in flood-prone areas, and digging canals so that they can cater more water. Meanwhile, Thailand's opposition Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva said that the government and the BMA should work closely on plans to release water runoffs from the North and clearly explain to people on flood-related problems and solutions.
