BMA worries about of dengue fever

BANGKOK, Jan 22 (TNA) -- The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has reported that the number of patients infected with dengue fever is quite worrisome, expressing that the number of dengue patients could reach as high as 30,000 this year. Deputy Permanent Secretary for BMA Wantanee Wattana had presided over the meeting to follow up on the dengue fever situation, where she revealed after the death of a well known actor from the disease, all concerned agencies to immediately work out preventive measures against the disease. She admitted that the spread of the dengue fever this year is worse than prior years, as statistics showed that 338 patients have already been infected with the virus since the beginning of the year. She noted that what is most troublesome is that, out of the 100 people who had been bitten by mosquitoes, 90 persons would not display any symptoms of having been infected, while the rest would display clear symptoms of the disease, particularly in the middle age group. Dr Wantanee said this means that risk groups for the disease are no longer limited to only children but people of all ages and has advised the public to become more aware of the situation by helping to do their parts in keeping their houses clean of house mosquitoes breeding sources. For 2016, the BMA has predicted that the number of dengue patients could reach as high as 30,000 people, with the 10 following districts at the highest risks of having infections, Lat Prao, Chatuchak, Din Daeng, Wang Thonglang, Bang Kapi, Suan Luang, Prawet, Wattana, Bang Phlat, and Thon Buri.
