Borobudur Temple Remains Open On Elections Day

Magelang, C Java, April 8 (Antara) - The Buddhist Borobudur Temple in Magelang District, Central Java, will remain open for tourist visitors on the legislative election day on Wednesday. "Borobudur Temple will remain open for tourist visitors. All officials can cast their votes in turn so that they can still provide services to the visitors," Head of Borobudur`s Park Service Unit Bambang Irianto said at the Temple on Tuesday. The government has declared the election day a holiday for civil servants, including school activities. It is expected that the holiday will be used by some of the people to visit the temple. "We will arrange the officials of the temple so that they could cast their votes in turn," Bambang said. On the occasion, he said that visitors to the temple had not yet peaked as it was in previous years. He said usually domestic tourist visits peaked between May and August. "But this year it could not be predicted because there will also be a presidential election on July 9," he added. Indonesia is organizing a legislative election on April 9 and a presidential race on July 9 this year to select legislators for 260 seats in the parliament and a president for the next five-year term.
