Brawijaya University Robot Used To Greet Guests

Malang, E Java, Oct 28 (Antara) - The Engineering Faculty of Brawijaya University created Prabu Brawijaya Robot to greet guests attending events at the university, located in Malang. "The four-armed robot was inspired by the Brawijaya University symbol. Actually, we had introduced the robot to the public when we celebrated the golden anniversary of the Engineering Faculty," said Engineering Faculty Dean Prof Dr Mohammad Bisri here on Monday. The team that created the robot in only one month is from the Robotic Laboratory of Electronic Engineering of Brawijaya University. Prabu Brawijaya Robot can perform dance movements and swing flags with its arms, as well as move in several directions. The robot measures 1.5 meters high, 50 centimeters in length and 60 centimeters wide. The team used aluminum and acrylics to form the robot`s body. "The robot is also equipped with motion sensors, so it can detect a moving person," Bisri said. Further, the robot has the ability to produce sounds using audio speakers installed on its body. Prabu Brawijaya is also equipped with four wheels to move its body in various directions. "We are using six cell Lippo 23 volts batteries to move the robot. Then, we also use three cell Lippo 12 volt batteries to power the 20 DC servo motors," Bisri said, adding that the team bought several robotic components from Surabaya, E Java. He noted that the team might further refine the body, as well as its motions, to make it more flexible when operating as a greeter. "We will refine Prabu Brawijaya so we can operate `him` as greeter at every event for Brawijaya University in the future," Bisri said.
