BRICS countries interested in building up dialog with other countries - Lavrov

MOSCOW, April 13. /TASS/. The BRICS countries are interested in establishing a dialogue with other fast growing economies, Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said after talks with his Argentine counterpart Susana Malcorra on Wednesday. "An understanding has been reached within BRICS that at the current stage we want all five countries (to be engaged in participating in the format)," the minister said. "We want to see how the union will be working in its current format in the current environment. It is rather young. Apart from regular meetings it implies sectoral top-level mechanisms on various areas of economic cooperation as well as regular meetings at the level of foreign ministers, finance ministers, etc," he said. According to Lavrov, the so-called outreach format is currently valid within BRICS. "When a summit is being held in this or that BRICS member-state, the countries from the respective region are always invited," he explained. "This was the case when there was a summit in South Africa, and in Brazil. And Argentina was one of the participants invited for looking at promising joint projects in the areas of mutual interest together with the BRICS member-states," Lavrov added. "The tradition (of outreach format) will be carried on as it ensures the contingence of the BRICS agenda with the interests of other fast growing economics," he said. Read more
