British Prime Minister To Visit Malaysia Thursday

KUALA LUMPUR, July 30 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, David Cameron is undertaking a working visit to Malaysia on Thursday as part of his four-nation visit to Southeast Asia. The Foreign Ministry in a statement on Wednesday night said Cameron is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with his Malaysian counterpart Najib Razak whereby both leaders will hold discussion on various issues. "Both leaders will take stock of bilateral relations including in the areas of trade and investment, education and defence as well as cooperation within the framework of the Commonwealth and the United Nations. "The two prime ministers are also expected to discuss regional and international issues of mutual interest. Prime Minister Cameron is also scheduled to attend a business event in Kuala Lumpur," the statement said. According to the statement, Cameron would be the first British Prime Minister to visit Malaysia in two successive terms. His previous visit was in April 2012. "This visit manifests the close and cordial ties between Malaysia and the United Kingdom," the statement said. Cameron would be accompanied by Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, Sajid Javid, Minister of State for Trade and Investment, Lord Francis Maude, Minister for Small Business, Industry and Enterprise, Anna Soubry, Minister of State for Defence Procurement, Philip Dunne, and a 30-member business delegation, it added. --BERNAMA
