British top envoy meets Bangkok governor

BANGKOK, September 10 (TNA) - British Ambassador to Thailand H.E. Mark Kent met Bangkok Governor MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra in the capital on Wednesday to discuss cooperation between London and Bangkok in many areas. After the 40-minute talks, MR Sukhumbhand told journalists that the British top envoy congratulated him on resuming his duties as the incumbent Bangkok Governor, following a recent court verdict to dismiss a case earlier filed by the Election Commission of Thailand (EC), in which he was alleged of electoral fraud. MR Sukhumbhand said the British ambassador also pledged that London is ready to work together with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) on promoting tourism in the Thai capital, as British visitors in Bangkok have increased by 7 per cent, thanks to closer relations between Britain and Thailand. According to the Bangkok governor, he also assured the British ambassador, based on updated and key relevant indicators, that Bangkok would not face a repeated massive flooding later this year, like that in late 2011. The Bangkok governor acknowledged that the British top envoy also expressed his interest in the BMA's plan to develop a monorail mass transit system on the outskirts of Bangkok, offering Britain's assistance, if requested.
