Bt2.7b expected to be changed hands on National Mother's Day in Bangkok

BANGKOK, August 7 (TNA) - A recent survey has found that up to about 2.7 billion baht should be changed hands in Bangkok alone on the National Mother's Day 2015, August 12, which is also Her Majesty Queen Sirikit's 83rd birthday. The survey, conducted by the Kasikorn Research Center (KRC) from July 21 to August 3 and released on August 7, showed that the most popular activity on the auspicious twin occasions this year should be people's eating out with their mothers in the capital. The survey found that most of the respondents, or 54.5 of the overall 407 people interviewed in the capital, including Bangkok natives and those who study and work in the city, representing all major careers, age ranges and income groups, would do special activities on the upcoming National Mother's Day, with eating out with mothers being their most favourite activity, followed by giving gifts and garlands to their mothers and holiday arrangements for mothers. KRC said the amount of 2.7 billion baht, expected to be spent on the twin celebrations in Bangkok this year, would be up by 2.7 per cent year-on-year although the increase rate would slow down from last year due to a drop in people's planned spending on holidays with their mothers. The leading private think tank found that more people in Bangkok were encouraging their mothers to exercise for good health, while they would use social media and applications on smart devices to communicate with their mothers and tell they love them. Also marking the auspicious twin celebrations, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) plans to deliver over 100 used drainage pipes to the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources, under the Thai Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, on August 10 so that the pipes would be used to create artificial reefs for marine lives and revive marine resources in Rayong Province in the Thai East. Bangkok Governor MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra told a press conference that BMA earlier delivered 189 old waste trucks to the same agency in 2006 to also create artificial reefs in Pattani and Naratiwat Provinces in the Thai Far South. According to the Bangkok governor, the artificial reefs project was initiated by Her Majesty the Queen and BMA's both activities are aimed to honour and pay tribute to Her Majesty the Queen, also revered as the National Mother.
