Buddhists perform merit-making on Makha Bucha Day

BANGKOK, Feb 11 (TNA) - Buddhists throughout Thailand on Saturday celebrated Makha Bucha Day by performing merit-making and observing religious rites. In Bangkok, devout Buddhists offered alms to 99 monks in front of King Rama VI statue at Lumpini Park. The event was organised by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration in cooperation with several government and state enterprise agencies, aimed at also making merit for the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej who passed away last October 13. At Wat Pho Chai in Nong Khai province bordering Laos, many Thais and Laos paid respects to famous Luang Por Phra Sai so that they would obtain fortune throughout this year. In Yala province near the Thai-Malaysian border, the provincial governor led devout Buddhists in offering alms at Wat Muang Yala amid tight security provided by government armed forces.(TNA)
