Cabinet nods for more measures to assist flood victims in Thai South

BANGKOK, January 11 (TNA) - The Cabinet has approved a tax measure to boost financial assistance to flood victims in the Thai South, as proposed by the Ministry of Finance. Under the new tax measure, individual donors and corporate bodies who make their financial contribution to southern flood victims are each allowed to make a deduction in their annual personal or corporate tax payment up to 1.5 times of their overall financial donations for people in 12 flood-ravaged provinces in the Thai South, However, the deducted amount when combined with other cash donations throughout the year of individual donors must not each exceed 10 per cent of their net annual revenues. For corporate bodies, the deducted amount when combined with other cash donations throughout the year must not exceed 2 per cent of their annual net profits each. Rehabilitation measures will also be introduced to assist southern flood victims in all dimensions after the flooding situation returns to normal. Deputy Prime Minister somkid Jatusripitak told journalists on Wednesday, meanwhile, that apart from the Cabinet's decision on January 10, the Thai government has earlier provided assistance to southern flood victims through relief packs and an extension of repayment periods of debts for flood-affected farmers, business operators and households.
