Calligraphy works sold out on opening day of show

TEHRAN,Feb.13(MNA) – Iranian master Ali Shirazi’s collection of calligraphic-paintings sold out fast on the opening day at Tehran’s Shirin Gallery, bringing back a glimmer of hope to artists and art dealers. A collection of 21 artworks by the master went on show on Friday under the title “Glory of Nastaliq” with the most expensive tableau sold at 270m rials (about $221,000). Despite the poor economic situation of the country, all the works sold out on the first day, giving a sign of hope for me and the other artists, Shirazi told . “I believe works must be tagged with reasonable prices. I try to represent works with new approaches and different themes in each exhibition,” he added. Asked about international markets, Shirazi said that the international market is subject to price fluctuation, while in Iran it is more stable, “if the artists focus on the Iranian market, they will be more successful and their artworks will find ways into people’s homes, encouraging others to purchase more.” Master Gholamhossein Amirkhani, who was attending the opening ceremony made a brief speech about the history of calligraphic-painting in Iran and said, “Shirazi has a bright background in Iranian calligraphy. “He has achieved a high level of calligraphy during his forty years of efforts. His works are original with no signs of imitation. His works are not comparable with those of other masters; they are unique,” he opined. The calligraphic-paintings created in a variety of colors will be on show until February 22 at the gallery located at No. 9, 18th street, in the Velenjak neighborhood.
