Cambodia backs Thailand's elected government

BANGKOK, November 27 (TNA) - Cambodia has expressed the neighbouring country's support for Thailand's elected government. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul told journalists on Wednesday that his Cambodian counterpart Hor Namhong has sent a letter to the Thai government, affirming Phnom Penh's stance on backing the elected Thai administration. Surapong also acknowledged that top envoys of several countries attending Tuesday's briefing on Thailand's ongoing anti-government demonstrations did not express any concern. According to the deputy prime minister, 23 countries have, however, asked their citizens to avoid protest locations while staying in Thailand. The deputy premier revealed that the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs is filing civil lawsuits against protesters intruding into the ministry's compound earlier this week although no violence was reported, as several public properties were reportedly damaged, urging the anti-government protesters to end their demonstrations.
