Cambodia not to back movements against Thai junta

BANGKOK, July 2 (TNA) - Cambodia’s Prime Minister Hun Sen has confirmed that Phnom Penh will neither interfere with Thai politics nor support any movement against the Thai army-led National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO). Acting Thai Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow said on Wednesday morning that Hun Sen told him of the Cambodian stance during his Tuesday's meeting with the Cambodian leader in Phnom Penh, where he paid a two-day official visit from July 1-2. Speaking to journalists after returning to Thailand, Sihasak revealed that Hun Sen expressed his understanding about Thailand’s political situation and development on the right track towards democracy and stability in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). According to the acting Thai foreign minister, who is also Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, the Cambodian leader stated that Thailand's internal affairs need to be solved by only Thai people, assuring that Cambodia will not interfere with Thai politics and support any movement against the junta. The acting Thai foreign minister acknowledged that he, in turn, insisted on Thailand’s stance on developing relations with Cambodia in all aspects and moving forward normal external policies despite the ongoing transitional period handled by the junta.
