Candlelight Operation Reveals 51 Killed In Past Two Days

Jakarta, Dec 26 (Antara) - The candlelight operation launched by the police in the past two days found that 51 people had died in road accidents, stated the Police Headquarters Spokesman Senior Commissioner Agus Rianto. "On the first day of the operation, the police found that 24 people were killed in road accidents across the country. On the second day, 27 people died in road accidents," Rianto noted here on Friday. He reported that the number of people suffering from serious injuries totaled 53, while 291 others ailed from minor injuries. Rianto explained that most of the vehicles involved in the accidents were motor vehicles. Of the recorded 451 accidents, 288 of them involved motor vehicles. During the initial two days of the operation, the police ticketed 17,616 motorists and reprimanded 12,870 others. They also recorded 237 criminal cases in the past two days. In the Candlelight Operation 2014, which started on December 24, 2014, and will last until January 2, 2015, a total of 80,560 police personnel are being deployed, assisted by 19,581 military officers and 65,196 others from various government agencies and other partners in charge of maintaining law, order, and security. They are deployed in 1,757 security posts and 603 service posts across various parts of the country.
