Caretaker PM meets governors of all Thai provinces

ROI ET, THAILAND, December 19 (TNA) - Caretaker Prime Minister and Defence Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has continued performing her duties in the Thai Northeast, where she is scheduled to meet governors of all provinces nationwide via a video conference system on Thursday afternoon. On Thursday morning, Yingluck visited a fair of local outstanding products at the Planchai Lake in Roi Et Province, in which a large number of people welcomed her amid tight security provided by police, after a group of demonstrators blew whistles at her before she entered her hotel on Wednesday night. On Thursday afternoon, Yingluck is scheduled to first chair a meeting with governors of all northeastern provinces in Roi Et to discuss with them measures to cope with drought, cold weather and waterway accidents. The caretaker prime minister will then meet governors of all other provinces across Thailand through a video conference system. Caretaker Interior Minister Charupong Ruangsuwan and leader of the ruling Pheu Thai Party, in the meantime, told reporters that he will invite local and foreign journalists to cover the application of Thailand's election candidates on December 23 so that they can report any possible attempt to block the country's new general election, set on February 2, 2014, by anti-government protesters. Meanwhile, Suthep Thaugsuban, secretary-general of the anti-government People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC), led his supporters to march from the Democracy Monument on Bangkok's Rajadamnoen Avenue on Thursday morning to campaign for his political reform plan before the new general election, during which he persuaded people to join his group's big rally on December 22. During the march, Suthep, who is a former deputy prime minister of Thailand's Democrat Party, also repeated his demand for the caretaker prime minister to resign to pave the way for the formation of a people’s council and a national political reform, proposed by his group.(TNA)
