Caucasus Moslems Office hosts meeting of Supreme Religious Council

Baku, December 22 (AzerTAc). A meeting of the Supreme Religious Council of the Caucasus Peoples took place at the Caucasus Moslems Office. Chairman of Caucasian Muslim Board, Sheikh ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazade made a report. He, in particular, noted that meeting of the Supreme Religious Council of the Caucasus Peoples, taken place in May in Baku became one of the important actions of the last year. Participants of meeting were accepted by President Ilham Aliyev who gave high assessment to the activity of Council. At the Baku meeting it was adopted an Appeal of religious figures of the Caucasus to the United Nations in which they condemned double standards concerning problems of the Caucasus, including, the Nagorno Karabakh problem. Chairman of the Caucasus Moslems Office concerned his recent visit to Yerevan where he met with the religious leader of Armenia at intermediary of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Cyril, called to promote to the peaceful settlement of the Karabakh problem and restoration of territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. Sheikh ul-Islam expressed gratitude to members of the Supreme Religious Council of the Caucasus Peoples, including heads of Christian and Judaic faiths for mutual respect and trust. The meeting was attended by the Bishop Alexander Ishein of Baku and the Caspian diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church, the chairman of the Mountain Jews community in Azerbaijan Semyon Ikhiilov, the head of Baku Catholic Church Vladimir Fekete, and also muftis of the Chechen Republic, Dagestan, the Adygey Republic, the North Ossetia, representatives of the Caucasus Moslems Office in Derbent.
