CDC informs public of new draft Charter content

BANGKOK, March 14 (TNA) - Thailand's Constitution Drafting Committee (CDC) is publicising the content of the new draft Constitution to the public, after the first draft has been completed. A CDC member, Manit Suksomjit, told reporters on Saturday (Mar 14) that CDC Chairman Dr. Borwornsak Uwanno has assigned members to disseminate the content of the draft Constitution to the public through various channels. Initially, CDC members plan to explain people in Bangkok, Chiang Mai Province in the Thai North and Khon Kaen Province in the Thai Northeast about the content of the draft Charter. Manit said CDC members will also take turn to explain the public on the content of the new draft Charter through a television programme. Manit revealed that on March 15, people will be informed of the national economy under the new Constitution through the programme, while on March 16, the public will be explained about people's income and benefits and on March 18, people will be told of national reforms under the new Constitution and on March 19, they will be told of protection given to civil servants under the new draft Charter. Meanwhile, a brainstorming on Thailand's new draft Charter was organised at Thammasat University (TU), during which TU Rector Somkid Lertpaithoon expressed his hope that CDC members would realise the country's past problems and rectify them, namely providing more public participation and more decentralisation under the new Charter.
