Chiang Mai Airport eyes becoming world top ten best medium airports in 2013

CHIANG MAI, May 12 (TNA) - Chiang Mai Airport is aiming to become top ten best medium airports in the world in 2013, according to Hatsataya Rakkamnerd, executive officer of the airport. Hatsataya announced the airport’s target Sunday, saying that during the first quarter of this year, the airport saw 1.4 million passengers, compared to 1.2 million in the same period last year. Hatsataya said the airport recorded an operating income of 214 million baht, representing a year-on-year increase of 82 percent. She said the increase in operating revenue was attributed to higher number of domestic and international flights served by the airport. She expects the airport's income would reach 850 million baht and passenger arrivals would increase to 5.3 million people in 2013. Chiang Mai airport was ranked the world’s 4th best small airport 2012 by the Airports Council International. (TNA)
