Chicken Feathers Applied to Medicine Manufacture

Pyongyang, July 10 (KCNA) -- The medical science sector of the DPRK has intensified the research into producing with locally available raw materials efficacious medicines to be conducive to the improvement of people's health. A research group at the Pharmacy Research Institute under the Institute of Medical Science has made various medicines with natural protein extracted from chicken feathers. The group succeeded in separating branched chains of amino acid by altering the constituent ratio of amino acid of natural protein with ion-exchange resin, thus elaborating the technology of producing pharmaceutical raw material with great economic value. It has manufactured with this new pharmaceutical raw material efficacious medicines for liver diseases, diabetes and fatigue, all of which were proved having high curative value with no side effect through clinical trials. The technology for comprehensive use of chicken feathers as pharmaceutical raw material was highly appreciated at the recent 33rd National Festival of Science and Technology. -0-
