Chikungunya Disease Attacks Nganjuk

Nganjuk, East Java, Nov 11 (Antara) - The chikungunya disease has attacked hundreds of people of the village of Sudimoroharjo, regency of Nganjuk, East Java. One of the victims Eko Hadiyanto, said on Monday he had suffered pain mainly in joints and headache over the past week. "I feel pain in my body especially in joints. Now it is better after receiving treatment," Eko said. He said many of his neighbors suffered the same disease after being bitten by mosquito . "There are 30 neighbors complaining about the pain saying they felt the pain after being bitten by mosquito," he said. In the village of Sudimoroharjo, hundreds of villagers had been treated and hospitalized at a local health center for the same disease. Head of the Wilangan Health Center in the regency of Nganjuk Bagus Sodikin said around 75 percent of Sudimoroharjo villagers had been medically treated after having the same symptoms. Bagus said the disease is spread by the mosquito Aedes aegypti especially during the change in climate from dry to rainy seasons. He said the health center is still waiting for the Nganjuk health service to start fogging to eradicate the mosquitoes.
