Children’s Day activities celebrated nationwide

BANGKOK, January 10 (TNA) - Local and foreign children have participated in Thailand's Children’s Day 2015 celebrations nationwide, including those in the violence-plagued Thai far South. After suspending activities for the national Children’s Day over the past 10 years due to frequent violence, the 56th Wing in Songkhla Province in the far South, near the Thai-Malaysian border, jointly organised Children's Day activities with several other agencies on Saturday, when children joined in the colourful activities since early morning, namely a showcase of weaponries and several types of aircraft. In Prachuap Khiri Khan Province in the Upper Thai South, traffic in front of and nearby Wing 5 air force base has been heavy since Saturday morning, as children joined Children's Day activities there, including a display of parachuting and well-trained dogs. Parents also took their children for a swimming at Ao Manao and visited an aquarium. In Phatthalung Province, children from several schools rushed for a chance to sit on the southern provincial governor’s chair, while the governor also presented gifts to them. They also paid worships to a Buddha image, aged over 400 years, which is placed inside a guestroom of the governor office and allows people to view and worship only once a year on the Children’s Day. In Ranong Province, also in the Thai South, more than 50 government offices jointly organised a fair, in which Thai and Myanmar children are welcome to join. It is expected that about 10,000 children should participate in the annual celebrations there. In Lamphun Province in the Thai North, local children, including those disabled, have also participated in Children's Day activities organised by the provincial governor. Free food and desserts have also been given away throughout the fair. In Chon Buri Province in the Thai East, a number of youths have visited Sattahib Naval Base to board HTMS Chakri Naruebet, as part of activities organised for youths by the Royal Thai Navy at the base to celebrate this year's Children's Day.
