Children, young adults’ books in great demand

Tehran, Dec 15, IRNA – 'Today, books in the field of children and young adults' literature are highly in demand”, head of Elmi Farhangi Publications said. “Most of the books bought by Iranian people are either the ones related to pre-schools or the ones they get for gifting”, Masoud Kowsari said on Monday. ‘The Iranian book market is different than the markets of Europe and the U.S. Currently the books in the field of children and young adults are in demand; in order to fulfil the requests needed to buck up in this arena”, he noted. “There are two solutions if we tend to promote book reading culture in Iran; firstly,to publish cheap books which can be afforded by the people and to buy more. Secondly, is to release expensive works, a trend which the publishers have already started in the past few years however demands for such books were too limited”, he added. Books have turned into luxuries nowadays as the cover is mostly judged and considered than the content which is a treat, he underlined. Accordingly cheap books will help the promotion of book reading. However if one moves towards the luxuries, (looks of the book) the purchases will decline and the per-capita reading will reduce as well. Moreover digital publication can help as well, Kowsari explained./end
