China supports Russia’s position on peaceful use of outer space - diplomat

BEIJING, March 20. /TASS/. China stands for the peaceful use of outer space and supports Russia’s position on this issue and will never participate in an arms race, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang said on Wednesday. "China invariably stands for the peaceful operation of outer space and against its militarization," the spokesperson said at a regular news briefing. "Over a whole number of years, China and Russia have been speaking jointly at the Disarmament Conference in Geneva against the spread of arms in outer space… China will never participate in an arms race in outer space," the Chinese diplomat stressed. Outer space should be considered as "the common domain and it is the task of everyone to protect it," the spokesperson said. US National Security Adviser John Bolton said earlier he did not rule out holding new consultations between Washington and Moscow on arms control and believed that China should also participate in them. According to Bolton, China’s buildup of its nuclear potential is one of the reasons why the United States is trying to strengthen its national missile defense system. Read more
