China, Thailand ink deal on anti-drugs

BANGKOK, June 1 (TNA) - China's southern Yunnan Province and Thailand have agreed on joint interceptions of cross-border trafficking of drugs, including drug precursors, in the Mekong River Basin. Deputy Head of the Yunnan Provincial Public Security Department Dong Jialu and Thai Justice Minister General Paiboon Khumchaya witnessed the signing of the agreement between Yunnan Provincial Narcotics Control Committee and Thailand's Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) Region 5 in Chiang Mai Province in the Thai North on Wednesday. Under the agreement, both sides will boost bilateral cooperation on solutions to drug trafficking in the Mekong River Basin. The Thai justice minister said the cooperation should better solve drug problems in the Mekong River Basin, as more information on major drug trafficking networks would be exchanged for joint arrests and crackdowns. According to the Thai minister, the cooperation also covers joint actions of both sides against trafficking of drug precursors in the Mekong River Basin. (TNA)
