Chinese Embassy Donates 2,000 Face Masks To Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR, April 3 (Bernama) -- The Chinese Embassy, concerned with the challenges faced by frontliners who have been working hard to curb the spread of COVID-19 infection in Malaysia, today donated face masks for the group to ease their concerns in discharging their duties. Apart from the security and medical personnel, media agencies and practitioners have also been categorised as frontliners as they were providing essential services in disseminating information to the public. As one of the key media organisations in Malaysia, the Malaysian National News Agency (BERNAMA) was selected to receive 2,000 pieces of face masks, which would benefit its staff, especially the reporters in the field. The donation was presented by the embassy’s Chief of Press and Public Communication Section spokesperson Tang Tang to BERNAMA Head of Broadcast (TV & Radio) Roslan Ariffin at the embassy in Jalan Ampang, here today. “Because at this crucial moments, we want to provide assistance and support to the frontliners, of course, the journalist and reporters of BERNAMA, you are the frontliners, we can do something for you…this is a humble contribution to give you better protection. We will survive this pandemic but we should be better protected while doing our job,” Tang said. He said as the sole news agency in Malaysia, Bernama has a vital role in ensuring that the people receive only the correct and accurate news every day, especially during this war against COVID-19. While descriving BERNAMA as the embassy’s good friend, Tang also expressed hope that the existing good ties would persist and be strengthened from time to time. Meanwhile, Roslan thanked the Chinese Embassy for their concerns over the safety and health of BERNAMA’s staff who were working hard to bring the latest news to the public via its various platforms, namely Bernama Wire Services, Bernama Images, Bernama TV, Bernama Radio and also its digital media. “This donation symbolises the support given by the Chinese Embassy to the frontliners. We have approximately 200 staff working on a daily basis and some of them are in the field to collect and to write news to be disseminated to the general public,” he said. Roslan said the face masks would also be distributed to reporters and photographers at Bernama bureaus nationwide. -- BERNAMA
