Chinese New Year Celebrations To Be Held on Yaowaraj Rd In Bangkok

BANGKOK, January 5 (TNA) - This year’s Chinese New Year will be celebrated on Bangkok’s Yaowaraj Road, known as Chinatown, on January 31 and February 1 with Beijing dispatching a cultural show to be displayed during the celebrations, said Visit Limprana, chairman of Yaowaraj Community Association. The Chinese ambassador to Thailand will represent the Chinese government in reading the Chinese Lunar New Year greetings for the Thais of Chinese origin while famous Chinese restaurants located on famous Yaowaraj Road will also prepare their signature food for sale during the celebrations, Mr. Visit said. Her Royal Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn will preside over the opening of the celebrations in the evening of January 31 and the event will be telecast live on Modernine TV. Asked whether an ongoing local political problem would pose any negative effect on the upcoming celebrations, Mr. Visit said that he did not believe it would create any problem because Chinese New Year celebrations have been organised on Yaowaraj Road for almost two decades now. However, the number of Chinese tourists visiting Thailand during the celebrations by chartered flights may decline slightly, he said. (TNA)
