Chinese Premier arrives in Thailand for official visit

BANGKOK, October 11 (TNA) - Chinese Premier Li Keqiang has arrived in Thailand for a three-day official visit, scheduled for October 11-13. Upon his arrival at Bangkok's Don Mueang Airport on a special flight on Friday afternoon, Li was welcomed by Thailand's Deputy Prime Minister Police General Pracha Promnog and Transport Minister Chadchart Sittipunt. It is Li's first official trip to Thailand after he took office in March this year. During his stay in Thailand, the visiting Chinese Premier will confer with his Thai counterpart Yingluck Shinawatra, who is also Thai Defence Minister, on ways to further strengthen Sino-Thai relations and ties between China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), in which Thailand is a member country. The Chinese Premier will also hold talks with Thai Parliament President and House Speaker Somsak Kiatsuranont and Senate Speaker Nikom Wairachpanich. The new Chinese Premier is also scheduled to travel to Thailand's northern resort Chiang Mai Province, where he will observe local community-based products under the government-supported One Tambon One Product (OTOP) Programme. Earlier, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Yingluck have agreed to boost bilateral trade value between China and Thailand to 100 billion US dollars by 2015. The agreement was reached last Sunday during their talks on the sidelines of the 21st Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit and related meetings, held on Indonesia's resort Bali Island.
