Christian Community Ready To Ensure Success Of MTQ In Maluku

Ambon, Maluku, Jan 31 (ANTARA) - The Christian communities, both Protestants and Catholics, from Tual and Southeast Maluku districts have expressed readiness to help ensure the success of the 25th National Quran Reading Competition (MTQ), which is scheduled to be held in May 2013. "Both Protestant and Catholic leaders have formed a joint committee, which is aimed at ensuring the successful holding of MTQ. This effort reflects the religious harmony in the region," the Religious Affairs Ministry`s head of Tual and Southeast Maluku district, Djamaluddin Bugis, said on Thursday. Tual will host MTQ 2013 as was decided at the regional working meeting in Dobo, Aru Island, on May 26, 2011. "Therefore, as a heritage capital and as a family, we all will make sure that the MTQ in Maluku this year is held successfully," Djamaluddin stated. He said the residents of Maluku were committed to ensuring the success of the event. "Therefore, Tual and Langgur are making preparations to welcome caravans from eight districts of Ambon," Djamaluddin added. The main arena around the football field and three other buildings are under construction, which is expected to be completed in April this year. Tual mayor Thamher expressed optimism that the MTQ in Maluku would be held successfully because the region`s Christian community would support the event. "Christian leaders and congregations realize that MTQ is the responsibility of all citizens of Tual. Therefore, they have decided to help each other maintain security in the region to ensure the success of the event," he explained. Chairman of the Parliament of Tual Rudolf Marthen Waremra also expressed hope that the event would be organised successfully. "We will give our full support, both politically and as part of our responsibility as the host of the event," he said.
