CIS state news agency launch joint preparations for Victory Day celebrations

YEREVAN, November 25 /TASS/. The heads of CIS state news agencies agreed to join efforts in preparation for the celebrations of the 70th anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 at the XIX meeting of the Council of the heads of state news agencies of the CIS member countries held in Yerevan on Tuesday. Various joint projects are being planned for the 70th anniversary including photo exhibitions, expositions and publications telling about the contribution of the peoples of each of the republics to the common victory. “We, the state news agencies of the CIS member states should set the tone and be the first in counteracting the desire of representatives of certain political circles to rewrite the history of war and the postwar development of our peoples,” TASS Director General Sergei Mikhailov said. “It is important to support, both by words and deeds, activities designed to consolidate the friendship of the CIS peoples; develop integration processes in our countries and support the carriers of historical memory and truth, especially the living veterans of the Great Patriotic War,” Mikhailov went on to say adding that the CIS countries had announced 2015 to be the Year of WWII veterans. Belarus is going to host the 20th jubilee meeting of the CIS Information Council. The CIS Information Council is a body of sectoral cooperation and a vital instrument of deepening integration of the CIS states in the information sphere. The CIS Information Council comprises the heads of state news agencies of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia and Tajikistan. Read more
