CMPO resolves to deport Indian businessman

BANGKOK, February 7 (TNA) - The caretaker government-run Centre for Maintaining Peace and Order (CMPO) has decided to deport an Indian businessman, Sathit Segal, on charges of joining anti-government protest leaders in delivering speeches considered instigating people to violate the law. Department of Special Investigation (DSI) Director General Tharit Pengdit, who is also a CMPO member, told journalists on Friday afternoon that the decision was made at a CMPO meeting earlier in the day. Tharit said the official order to deport Segal is expected to be issued by February 8 at the latest and he has, then, to leave the Thai Kingdom immediately. Segal, a leader of the anti-government People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC), was also charged with leading protesters to illegally occupy government offices. Segal has claimed that he did not violate the emergency decree, imposed in all areas in Bangkok and some targeted areas in peripheral provinces since January 22, as he has neither addressed protesters on the stage nor joined the PDRC marching campaign since the special law was enforced and he would seek justice from the court.(TNA)
