CNN to resume broadcasting in Russia soon

NEW YORK, March 24. CNN International news channel has obtained a broadcasting license and will be back in Russia as soon as possible, Turner Broadcasting International, the CNN owner, told TASS on Tuesday. Claudia Coles, a spokesperson for Turner Broadcasting System, said the company was glad to be granted an official license in Russia after meeting all procedural requirements. She said CNN International would soon resume its broadcasting in the country. She did not say when however. According to earlier reports, Alexander Zharov, the head of Russia’s regulatory agency in the sphere of mass media and communications, or Roskomnadzor, said his agency had issued a universal broadcasting license to CNN International. "I welcome the CNN’s strict abidance by the agreements that were reached at the talks /on the resumption of broadcasting - TASS/ and I believe the company will be as precise and immaculate in its content policy," he told the Izvestia newspaper. CNN broadcast in Russia as part of a package of the NTV Plus satellite operator but Turner Broadcasting Systems Europe /TBSE/, which manages the CNN European versions, informed the partners in November 2014 it would withdraw from Russian cable networks from December 31, 2014.
