Coal plant protesters disperse after leaders released

BANGKOK, Feb 19 (TNA) - Five leaders of the protest against the planned coal-fired power plant in Krabi province were released and demonstrators dispersed from their protest site near Government House today. The protest ended after the government had agreed with the protesters’ proposal to renew the project's environmental impact assessment (EIA) and the environmental health impact assessment (EHIA) to create understanding and allow participation by local people, said Government spokesman Lt Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd. The agreement will be forwarded to the cabinet meeting on Tuesday for acknowledgement. After the end of the protest, the government provided buses to send demonstrators to their hometown. (TNA)
