"Cobra Gold 16" set on Feb 9-19

BANGKOK, January 25 (TNA) - The United States and Thailand will co-host the "Cobra Gold 16" joint military exercises during February 9-19 2016, which will also be participated by other 26 allied countries in the region. The upcoming "Cobra Gold 16" military exercises are called the "heavy year" ones in the Asian-Pacific region. Activities at the exercises will focus on three main aspects, including a seminar on the commander-level, ahumanitarian project for the civil society in Thailand and field exercises to strengthen military relations in the region. The annual "Cobra Gold" military exercises were initiated between the United States and Thailand to cope with security problems during the Cold War era, but the annual exercises have been modified to focus on joint military drills to deal with natural disasters, terrorism prevention and peace keeping with more participating countries in the region after the end of the Cold War.
