Cogegobi to start test operation at uranium mine

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Director-General of Cogegobi LLC, the uranium exploring company-subsidiary to Areva Mongol, held a meeting with the Chairman of the Citizens’ Khural of Dornod aimag on February 25 to give information about the frameworks intended to be completed in 2015. The company is completing its uranium explorations in Ulaanbadrakh and Zuunbayan soums, and has concluded the feasibility study for mine operations. The authorities of Cogegobi are pursuing to obtain mining permits within the first six months of this year. If it is done, the company intends to start the pilot exploitation in 2015. It is perceived by the local inhabitants that the exploitation of uranium causes birth defects in livestock off-springs grazing around the mine site. Therefore, the company is planning a veterinarian diagnostic tests for the livestock from these soums early March, reports www.mining.mn.
