Coin-eating turtle undergoes 2nd operation

BANGKOK, March 19 (TNA) – The green sea turtle, named Omsin, earlier suffering from eating coins has been admitted to an intensive care unit after it underwent another operation to cure a complication, a Thai veterinarian said. Veterinary scientist Nantarika Chansue of Chulalongkorn University' s veterinary science faculty posted on her Facebook timeline on Saturday that the vet team found the turtle suffered from abdominal pain associated with a volvulus and strangulation of the intestine following a thorough examination. She elaborated that the strangulated intestine could occur during the recovery period after the female sea turtle underwent the first surgery to remove over 900 coins from her stomach last week. As a result, Ms. Nantarika said the second operation was required for Omsin to cure the complication. The sea turtle, however, remains weak and has been admitted to ICU, she added. (TNA)
