Cold snap affects elephants in Thai North

LAMPANG, December 28 (TNA) - The ongoing cold snap hitting the Thai North has not only affected people, but animals, namely elephants. Veterinarian Kruawan Kayan of the Elephant Hospital at the Friend of Asian Elephant Foundation in Lampang Province said on Wednesday that a steady drop of temperatures lately has resulting in many elephants falling ill. Kruawan told reporters that elephants under the care of Lampang's Friend of Asian Elephant Foundation have suffered from cold-shakes and loss of appetite; so, the foundation staffs have set up bonfires and shelters to warm them up, as the site is situated in the middle of a jungle where temperatures have dropped to as low as 12 degree Celsius over the past couple of days. The veterinarian acknowledged that the foundation staffs have also given extra care to 14 elephant cubs and those injured, sick and amputated. (TNA)
