Cold spell hits northern Thailand provinces

CHIANG MAI, October 23 (TNA) - Despite heavy rainfall in the last few days, several northern Thai provinces are now hit by cold spell with thick fog early Wednesday morning while those engaging in tourism industry expect this year’s business in the region would be booming. Temperatures have noticeably dropped as cold spell from China has covered the northernmost province of Chiang Rai, causing the weather to become suddenly cool. Doi Mae Salong in Chiang Rai’s Mae Fa Luang district, one of top attractions in the province, is packed with tourists on the public holiday. Thailand's Meteorological Department office in the North has forecast that temperature in the North would drop to 22 degrees Celsius in the next two days while it would be a mere 8 degrees Celsius on top of Doi Inthanon. Thick fog covered the northern capital province of Chiang Mai early in the morning, causing poor visibility for motorists and they were forced to open the headlights for safety purposes. People living on mountains are seen wandering the city to buy warm clothes. (TNA)
