Colourful Opening Of 26th ASEAN Summit

KUALA LUMPUR, April 27 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Najib Razak and his wife, Rosmah Mansor Monday attended the colourful opening ceremony of the 26th ASEAN Summit, together with other ASEAN leaders. The event started at 9am at the Plenary Hall of the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), with the delegates started to trickle in as early as 7.30am. ASEAN leaders and their spouses arrived at about 8.30am. They were Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei Darussalam, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, Indonesian President Joko Widodo and Laos Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong were present. The others were Myanmar President U Thein Sein, the Philippines President Benigno S. Aquino 111, Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Thailand Prime Minister General Prayuth Chan-Ocha and Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang. Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin was also present. Among ministers present were Foreign Minister Anifah Aman, Defence Minister Hishammuddin Hussein, and Communications and Multimedia Minister Ahmad Shabery Cheek. The opening ceremony started with the ASEAN anthem sung by a choir from Permata Seni Negara. The delegates witnessed a historic when Najib launched GOASEAN, the world's first ASEAN-focused travel channel. A hologram presentation of iconic buildings in each ASEAN member country on the stage dazzled the delegates.
