Commander:Peacekeeping Force is duty-bound to enforce laws

BANGKOK, March 31 (TNA) - Commanding General of the First Army Area Command Lieutenant General Kampanart Ruddit, in his capacity as Chief of the Peacekeeping Force under the army-led National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), says that the Peacekeeping Force is duty-bound to enforce laws, while Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha, who is also NCPO Chief, will make a reasonable decision on the special law enforcement. Lieutenant General Kampanart assured on Tuesday that his First Army Area Command respects human rights and exercises laws to facilitate ongoing national reform and progress in line with the interim government's reform roadmap. Lieutenant General Kampanart noted that authorities have been aware of opponents' movements and tried to negotiate and create understanding with all parties. The first army area commander stressed that Thai authorities have refrained from abusing power but negotiated sincerely with all groups of people. The first army area commander made the remarks in response to reports that the interim Thai government is considering imposing Section 44 of the Provisional Constitution in place of the martial law.
