Comprehensive Investigation To Identify Ataturk Airport Attackers - Turkish Embassy

By Tengku Faezah Tengku Yusof KUALA LUMPUR, July 1 (Bernama) -- While the Turkish Government conducts a comprehensive investigation to identify the attackers of Istanbul's Ataturk Airport, there are indications the Daesh terrorist group spearheaded the attack which left 41 people dead and several others injured. In a statement issued to Bernama here Thursday, the Turkish Embassy said according to officials, three suicide bombers arrived at the airport by taxi and opened fire, using AK-47 high-powered assault rifles before blowing themselves up Tuesday night. A crisis desk was formed right after the attack upon instructions of Prime Minister Binali Yildirim, and security measures were strengthened after the attack, it said. However, the embassy stressed there was no security lapse at the airport and this was stated by Yildirim. The embassy also acknowledged Malaysia's support for Turkey in fighting terrorism. "We strongly condemn this heinous terrorist attack. It is a source of consolation and strength for us to see the solidarity expressed by friendly and brotherly countries like Malaysia," it said, adding that Turkey was determined to continue its fight against terrorism. "This kind of attacks showed that terrorism is a global threat, which menaces all countries and therefore, the fight against it should be conducted globally...it is very clear that no country is immune from the threat of terrorism. "If we succumb to terrorism and refrain from living a normal life, this will exactly be what the terrorist organisations aim to create. We should not let terrorists dictate to us how we are going to lead our lives." Meanwhile, airport operations have resumed and air traffic returned to normal after the attack, said the embassy. -- BERNAMA
