KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 9 (Bernama) -- A congregation of more than 1,000 people performed the "solat hajat" (prayer of need) at the National Mosque here Friday for the haze shrounding the country to no prolong. The prayer was led by Chief imam of the mosque, Syaikh Ismail Muhammad, who had earlier delivered the Friday sermon and led the Friday prayer. The Friday sermon, among others, advised the people to take the necessary health precaution against the haze and to not carry out open burning. Thursday, Islamic Development Department (Jakim) director-general Othman Mustapha urged mosques and surau (prayer houses) in the country to perform the "Solat Hajat" to stop the haze. The haze has been shrouding the country since a month ago and the situation worsened last week forcing some schools in certain states to be closed and also affecting operations of several airports. -- BERNAMA
