Cost Of Living In Jakarta Very High - Research Firm

JAKARTA, April 21 (Bernama) -- The cost of living in Indonesia's capital, Jakarta is considered very high compared to other major cities in the world, according to a recent study by a market research firm. Ipsos Business Consulting Indonesia's country manager, Domy Halim said based on the company's latest survey at the end of February, the cost of living in Jakarta was found to be even higher than in Bangkok, Hong Kong and New York. The survey compared the percentage of money spent by Jakarta residents on certain products and lifestyle necessities such as coffee, dining out, internet broadband connection, cinema tickets and smart phones among other things. A cup of hot beverage in a coffee shop can cost around US$2.88 (RM9.30) in Jakarta. "This figure represents some 1.12 percent of residents' average incomes. While, in Hong Kong, residents spent 0.28 percent of their average income on comparable items. "However, people's perception of whether a particular product is expensive or not is also determined by their socioeconomic status," added Domy. -- BERNAMA
