Countdown activities organized ahead of climate change summit

BANGKOK, September 11 (TNA) -- Many organisations are conducting activities in the 100-day period in the lead-up to the 21st United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP21) set in Paris late this year. Representatives of the European Union, the French embassy and Chulalongkorn University gathered at the university today (Sept 11) to start the 100-day countdown. Asst Prof Chaiyaporn Phuprasert, head of the environmental engineering department of Chulalongkorn University, said that the countdown was aimed at campaigning for a highlight of the conference, a new declaration for international attempts to reduce greenhouse gases. Thailand and its partners would send their stances to be discussed in the conference before Oct 1. The COP21 is set in Paris from Nov 30 to Dec 11 as countries need to seal a new international agreement to curb global warming. Representatives of countries to attend the conference had the 100-day period to prepare their stances for negotiation on the global efforts to control carbon dioxide emissions. (TNA)
