Countries seek to foster relations with Thailand

BANGKOK, June 14 (TNA) - Ambassadors from many countries are seeking to hold talks with Thai Army Chief, General Prayuth Chan-ocha, also leader of the National Council for Peace and Order, to foster bilateral ties between their country and Thailand, said NCPO deputy spokesman Colonel Weerachon Sukhonthapatiphak on Saturday. They include ambassadors of India and other countries which understand situations in Thailand, according to the deputy spokesperson. Colonel Weerachon said General Prayuth considers the NCPO’s foreign affairs mission as successful as many countries have now started to look at Thailand’s situations more positively. This was demonstrated by a visit of Malaysian armed forces chief early this month and several meeting between General Prayuth and foreign businessmen, he said. Despite, anti-coup reactions by the United States and Australia, the two countries continue to maintain close ties with Thailand, especially in the army level, he said. Colonel Weerachon said the NCPO chief attaches importance to promoting foreign countries’ understanding of Thailand’s domestic situations and the country’s adherence to democratic system and efforts to build democracy in a version that suit local context. “Thai envoys have been instructed to inform the NCPO’s roadmaps to other countries, especially those which take strong stance against Thailand and have strong democratic values,” he said. The NCPO will hold a meeting with Thai envoys and military attaches weekly to discuss communication plan with other countries. (TNA)
