CRA Organizes Telecommunications Regulatory Conference 2014

Doha, March 23 (QNA) -The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, is planning to hold the first annual Telecommunications Regulatory Conference 2014 on March 26 at the Four Seasons Hotel Doha. The conference will focus on opportunities and challenges facing the next generation of fixed broadband networks and services. The conference, titled "Next Generation of Fixed Broadband Network and Services: Challenges and Opportunities", will offer unparalleled opportunities to gain deep insights from the regulators, industry analysts and other international and regional experts to help uncover the full potential of broadband, said the CRA in a press release issued here on Sunday. Saleh Al-Kuwari, Deputy Assistant Secretary General, CRA said in a statement issued today, "The number of fixed broadband subscribers is on the rise. Global broadband market statistics say subscribers have exceeded 500 million. File sharing, video downloads, online TV viewership and online games are attracting more broadband subscribers. Our conference is especially significant as it looks into the fixed broadband issues, highlighting opportunities and challenges in Qatar and the region, as well as the importance of access to passive infrastructure for all stakeholders in the value chain," said Saleh Al-Kuwari, adding, "We hope that the conference is successful in helping decision makers in the Arab world making the right choices." The conferences dynamic agenda will feature an opening address from Al-Kuwari, as well as a number of internationally renowned speakers including Dr. Laurent Benzoni, Professor of Economics at Sorbonne University, and Founder of TERA Consultant, Dr. Amr Badawi, Board Member and former CEO of National Telecom Regulatory Authority in Egypt, Dr. Bocar A.BA, Chief Executive Officer of SAMENA Telecommunications Council, Ahmed Al Sulaiti, Technology CEO at Qatar National Broadband Network (Qnbn), Stewart White, CEO, AKHET Consulting, and Dr. Eiman Al-Ansari, Consumer & Government Affairs Manager, CRA. The conference will feature three panels. The first panel will focus on identifying the needs of the telecom regulators. The second will explore the views from service providers, covering topics like generating demand in the broadband market. And, finally, the third panel, "Access to Passive Infrastructure", will discuss how access to passive infrastructure affects all stakeholders in the value chain. The conference will also attract speakers from Qatari public and private sectors, such as the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning, Public Works Authority (Ashghal), Doha International Airport, Barwa, Ooredoo, Vodafone Qatar and Qnbn.(QNA)
