Criminal charge against ex-Thai Democrat PM, DPM dismissed

BANGKOK, August 28 (TNA) - Bangkok's Criminal Court has dismissed a murder lawsuit against former prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and former deputy prime minister Suthep Thaugsuban, filed earlier by the Department of Special Investigation (DSI). Thursday's court decision concerned an accusation that Abhisit and Suthep had ordered the murder of red-shirt demonstrators in April and May 2010. The Criminal Court ruled that the crackdown order of both Abhisit and Suthep against the then anti-government demonstrators had been within their authority and responsibility and the red -shirt protest had turned more violent at that time. The court also ruled that doubts against their order concerned their official roles, not any murder question; so, such the case should go to the Supreme Court's Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions instead.
