Crowd still pack key tourism spots in North

BANGKOK, January 9 (TNA) - Although New Year holidays has ended, a large crowd of tourists on Sunday were still packing key tourism destinations and admiring the beauty of trees and blooming flowers in the chilly North. As the temperature dropped to lower 10 degrees Celsius in the northernmost province of Chiang Rai in the Sunday morning, a large crowd of visitors still visited important tourism destinations, especially the Doi Pha Tang which stands atop Doi Pha Mon Agricultural Centre in Wiang Kaen district during the weekend. Doi Pha Mon marks the common border between Thailand and Laos. The perfect and chilly weather had helped the pink Phraya Sua Krong flowers, known as Thailand’s sakura, bloom as tourists viewed them along with the sea of fog before dawn. In the northern capital province of Chiang Mai, devout Buddhists offered alms comprising newly harvested sticky rice to monks at temples. The offering of the sticky rice is typically Northern tradition. At Phu Hin Rong Kla National Park in Nakhon Thai district of Phitsanulok province, tourists slept in tents to experience the low temperature of between 16-18 degrees Celsius at nightfall. Many of them stayed close to bonfire and ate barbequed food before waking in the Sunday morning to admire the beauty of nature and see how Hmong tribesmen live. The general atmosphere at Mae Hong Son’s Pai district was still active after the New Year holidays. Tourists continued to visit the sleepy district and wandered on the ‘Walking Street’ at night. Souvenirs were doing a good business. Among those souvenirs sold by street vendors and popular among the tourists were those colourful neck and shoulder scarves. (TNA)
