Culture ministry to hold activities to celebrate Visakha Bucha Day

BANGKOK, May 5 (TNA) -- Thai Ministry of Culture and 50 other organisations would jointlhy hold activities to celebrate Visakha Bucha Day 2016, focusing on creating an image for Thailand as one of the world's Buddhist countries. Culture Minister Vira Rojpojchanarat said the recent meeting of the sub-committee to follow up on the promotion of morals in the Thai society has approved of the proposal to organise a Buddhism week on the occasion of this year's Visakha Bucha Day between May 14-20, targeting to create awareness among the public to value the Buddhist principles, while also upholding the image of Thailand as one of the world's top Buddhist countries, in accordance with the government's policy to create a society of virtue. The ministry, together with 50 other organisations from the private, public, and members of the Buddhism network in Thailand have planned to organise seven main activities to celebrate this year's Visakha Bucha Day, including the the praying at nine temples and the invitation to 10 embassies from the 10 countries that worship Buddhism to join in with the Buddhist ceremony to celebrate the auspicious day.
